YAB MENTERI BESAR OF NEGERI SEMBILAN
I wish to inform that the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) of Negeri Sembilan functions as an advisory body on matters relating to Malay adat istiadat (custom and ceremony), including questions relating to the selection and removal from office of the four (4) Undang Luak, as provided under Article 16 of the Constitution of the State of Negeri Sembilan (UUTKNS) (1959). This includes matters concerning the removal of an Undang Luak from holding the pesaka (inherited customary title) according to the custom of his Luak under Article 14(3) of the UUTKNS.
In this connection, the removal of Dato’ Mubarak bin Dohak as holder of the pesaka of Dato’ Klana Petra of Luak Sungei Ujong was carried out in accordance with the pesaka and adat (custom) of the Telaga Undang (the lineage from which the Undang is drawn), Waris Klana Hulu (the Klana Hulu heirs), Sungei Ujong, from 13 May 2025. Subsequently, a Special Sitting of the DKU on 17 April 2026 agreed to advise on and accept the consensus of the Telaga Undang, Waris Klana Hulu, Luak Sungei Ujong, which removed Dato’ Mubarak bin Dohak as the 10th holder of the pesaka of Dato’ Klana Petra of Luak Sungei Ujong, in line with Article 14(3) of the UUTKNS, on 33 offences relating to the pesaka and adat of the Telaga Undang, Waris Klana Hulu, Luak Sungei Ujong.
The DKU’s advice accepting the removal of a holder of the pesaka of Dato’ Undang Luak in Negeri Sembilan has also been carried out before, when the 14th holder of the pesaka of Undang Luak Johol, Dato’ Mohammad Jan bin Abdul Ghani, was removed on 27 March 2016 on 13 offences relating to the pesaka and adat of Luak Johol.
Accordingly, the act of Dato’ Mubarak bin Dohak in signing and reading out a declaration deposing DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, on 19 April 2026 (Sunday) at the Balai Undang Luak Sungai Ujong, cannot be accepted and is not recognised by the State Government, because he no longer holds the authority or function of Undang of Luak Sungei Ujong, and it is also inconsistent with Articles 10 to 12 of the UUTKNS.
