MEDIA STATEMENT
The UMNO Malaysia Political Bureau meeting held on 29 April 2026, corresponding to 11 Zulkaedah 1447H, discussed and made the following decisions:
1. UMNO remains firmly committed to the principles of the UMNO Constitution under Clause 3.1, which upholds the Institution of the Malay Rulers as the pillar of national sovereignty.
2. UMNO Malaysia views seriously the recent developments involving the crisis of the Royal Institution and Adat in Negeri Sembilan, which have led to major controversy and significant misunderstandings among component party members forming the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan.
3. UMNO Malaysia has also received a full explanation from the Chairman of the Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Body regarding the actions of Barisan Nasional State Assembly Members who have lost confidence in the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, due to his stance which is seen as sidelining the Adat Institution and the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan.
4. UMNO Malaysia takes the position of respecting the Barisan Nasional State Assembly Members who maintain their loss of confidence in the Menteri Besar, while continuing to support the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan to ensure stability and the well-being of the people.
5. An immediate meeting between the UMNO Political Bureau and the Pakatan Harapan Political Bureau must be convened to resolve several issues involving the core principles of each party. This is in line with Clause 5(c) of the Memorandum of Understanding in forming the Unity Government, which requires all fundamental disputes to be resolved through a Negotiation Council.

The escalation of this matter to UMNO's federal Political Bureau, ten days after the declaration and a week after the BN assemblymen's withdrawal, marks a new phase. What began as a state-level constitutional dispute now sits formally on the agenda of the national party leadership on both sides of the Unity Government.
