What happened last week
18 August 2026, Tuesday: The First (Special) Sitting of the 16th Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) convened at Wisma Negeri, Seremban. The assemblymen were formally sworn in, and UMNO’s Datuk Seri Dr Awaludin Said was elected Speaker. Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd Zain, of PAS and the Perikatan Nasional bloc, was elected Deputy Speaker. The State Legislative Assembly now comprises 18 Barisan Nasional, 11 Pakatan Harapan and seven Perikatan Nasional members, with the BN-PN coalition holding two thirds majority (FMT, 18 August 2026, The Star, 18 August 2026).
18 August 2026, Tuesday: At the Seremban High Court, Judge Roz Mawar Rozain heard submissions in the originating summonses filed by the Negeri Sembilan state government seeking eviction orders for the Balai Undang (the official hall of an Undang) and residences of the Undang of Rembau and the Undang of Sungei Ujong, and fixed 24 August 2026 for her decision, to be delivered at 4pm over Zoom. The state government argued that it is the lawful owner of the premises, that the land is gazetted as public reserve under Section 62 of the National Land Code, that eviction notices were served on 29 April and 29 June, and that it had been unable to access the premises for close to 50 days. Counsel also pointed to a Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) notice dated 1 August 2026 as settling the question of the rightful holder of the Undang Luak Rembau title. (The Star, 18 August 2026).
Commentary worth reading
Commentary was sparse this week, with the livelier activity on Facebook and TikTok. Accounts backing the removed Undangs and Tunku Nadzaruddin’s succession claim continue to press their case, questioning the validity of the 31 July DKU sitting and the standing of the current chieftains. This publication treats such posts as social media sentiment: illustrative of one camp’s position, rather than as resolving the constitutional and legal questions that remain in dispute.
What we are watching for
24 August 2026, Monday: Judge Roz Mawar Rozain is scheduled to deliver her decision on the state government’s eviction summonses concerning the Balai Undang and residences of Rembau and Sungei Ujong, at 4pm over Zoom.
28 September 2026: Case management before the Seremban High Court in the contempt proceedings, where the DKU and its secretary are seeking to have six individuals cited for contempt.
7 October 2026, Wednesday: Parties in WA-25-201-07/2026 return before Judge Norliza Othman to state whether the judicial review continues in Kuala Lumpur or moves to Seremban. The pending intervention applications stand over to the same date.
19 October 2026: The Court of Appeal’s next date in the six’s appeal against the grant of leave for contempt proceedings.
